Wow! First man ‘functionally cured’ of HIV

Wow! First man ‘functionally cured’ of HIV

WOW! Since HIV was discovered 30 years ago this week, 30 million people have died from the disease, and it continues to spread at the rate of 7,000 people per day globally, the UN says.

There's not much good news when it comes to this devastating virus. But that is perhaps why the story of the man scientists call the "Berlin patient" is so remarkable and has generated so much excitement among the HIV advocacy community.

Timothy Ray Brown suffered from both leukemia and HIV when he received a bone marrow stem cell transplant in Berlin, Germany in 2007. The transplant came from a man who was immune to HIV, which scientists say about 1 percent of Caucasians are. (According to San Francisco's CBS affiliate, the trait may be passed down from ancestors who became immune to the plague centuries ago. This Wired story says it was more likely passed down from people who became immune to a smallpox-like disease.)

What happened next has stunned the dozens of scientists who are closely monitoring Brown: His HIV went away.

"He has no replicating virus and he isn't taking any medication. And he will now probably never have any problems with HIV," his doctor Gero Huetter told Reuters. Brown now lives in the Bay Area, and suffers from some mild neurological difficulties after the operation. "It makes me very happy," he says of the incredible cure.

The development of anti-retroviral drugs in the 1990s was the first sign of hope in the epidemic, transforming the disease from a sudden killer to a more manageable illness that could be lived with for decades. But still, the miraculous cocktail of drugs is expensive, costing $13 billion a year in developing countries alone, according to Reuters. That figure is expected to triple in 20 years--raising the worry that more sick people will not be able to afford treatment.

Although Brown's story is remarkable, scientists were quick to point out that bone marrow transplants can be fatal, and there's no way Brown's treatment could be applied to the 33.3 million people around the world living with HIV. The discovery does encourage "cure research," according to Dr. Jay Levy, who co-discovered HIV thirty years ago, something that many people did not even think was possible years ago.

You can watch Brown talk about his cure in this CBS video report.

TIMAYA BAGS AN AMBASSADOR AWARD FROM UNITED NATIONS.

TIMAYA BAGS AN AMBASSADOR AWARD FROM UNITED NATIONS

In apparent recognition of his propagation of peace in the restive Niger Delta, consistent hitmaker, Enetimi Odom, the musician popularly known as Timaya, has been appointed a Peace Ambassador by the Interreligious and International Federation for World Peace, IIFWP, a division of the United Nations. According to Dr. Hak Ja Haan Moon, co-founder of the IIFWP, Timaya was especially chosen for this honour because he is “One of those individuals whose lives exemplify the ideal of living for the sake of others, and who dedicate themselves to practices which promote the founding ideals of the IIFWP.” Reacting to the honour, Timaya says, “I am happy. Honestly, I am. This goes to show that the ideals I am using the instrumentality of my music to preach are not in vain. It is even a good thing that the President is from that region which means that things will surely get better. I thank those who deemed it expedient to make me a Peace Ambassador and I promise not to relent in this struggle. ” Moon says further that the new Ambassador for Peace, like others from all over the world, is expected to contribute to the fulfilment of the hope of all ages, a unified world of peace wherein the spiritual and material dimensions of life are harmonized. Thus, Timaya joins a short list of highly rated celebrities including D ’banj, Ini Edo and Ramsey Noah who are also UN Ambassadors. Interestingly, this recent honour is coming a few weeks after the Egberi Papa 1 of Bayelsa as he is also known was specially recognised and appreciated for his outstanding contributions to the social and cultural development of Sierra Leone at the country’s 50th Independence anniversary. Meanwhile, starting from June 1st, Timaya and his Dem Mama Soldiers will be on a 10-country tour of Europe spanning Holland, Greece, Spain, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland and France among others. During the trip, he will perform at the FIFA Women ’s World Cup holding in Germany between June 26 and July 17 where the Super Falcons of Nigeria are participating.

NETPod: Modenine Returns With New Single ‘I’m Back’

NETPod: Modenine Returns With New Single ‘I’m Back’

Modenine is without a doubt the most respected hip-hop act in Nigeria. With about seven mixtapes and four albums, who can stand toe-to-toe with the punchline king? Your guess is as good as mine – Nobody.
Modey who recently returned to the country in anticipation of the release of his fifth studio Lp ‘Commercial Break‘ has dropped the official single coincidentally titled ‘I’m Back‘. Fans and followers of the hip-hop icon will pleased to know that their ‘King’ has returned.
I’m back‘ surprisingly is an up-beat tune but Modey holds the track by the neck as he rides along the beat comfortably. He rhymes about his return and what he intends to accomplish. With lines like ‘The mice all play when the cat is out/I own this building, back out!, you know Nigel Benn is not joking.
Modenine might not be at his best on this Bayorz Music-laced-beat as the production isn’t reminiscent of the rapper’s customary style but vanish any thoughts of under performance as we all know the ‘nine’ is here to stay.

The boys are yet to make an official announcement, but sources close to them tell us barring any last minute changes, Drake will be co-headlining the Psquare album concert holding in July.
According to SuagzEmpire.Kum sources, it’s not the first time bestsellers Psquare are having an international act on their side. An earlier concert and album deal with Busta Rhymes in 2008 did not materialise because negotiations broke down.
The P Square concert is billed for the Expo Centre of Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos.

per cent in some 28 states,

Incumbent President Leading By Wide Margin In Nigeria's Presidential Election -April 18

Incumbent President
Goodluck Jonathan is expected
to win Nigeria's presidential
election held on Saturday by a
very wide margin, according to
results so far declared in most
states across the country and
monitored by Xinhua news
agency.
The results indicate that
Johnathan, the candidate of the
ruling People's Democratic Party
(PDP) has defeated presidential
candidates of the Congress for
Progressive Change (CPC), Gen.
Muhammadu Buhari, Action
Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Nuhu
Ribadu, and of the All Nigeria
People Party (ANPP), Ibrahim
Shekarau, in all the 17 states in
southern Nigeria.
Meanwhile, at least five people
have been reported killed in
different parts of northeast
Nigeria's Bauchi state after the
presidential election. A riot also
broke out after a police officer
in northwest Nigeria's Katsina
State killed a man and wounding
two others.
Xinhua's reporters across the
country, Africa's most populous
nation, said the Nigerian leader
swept the most states in the oil-
rich southern region by
landslide. He also won five of
the six states in the southwest
zone.
The PDP, however, lost in
southwest Osun State, making it
the only state Jonathan lost in
the southwest to the ACN
candidate, Ribadu. Jonathan had
won more than the
constitutionally stipulated
minimum 25 per cent of the
votes, as he scored 188,409
votes.
Ribadu scored 299,711 votes.
The CPC candidate, Buhari was
not in contention for votes in
this state at all, as he scored a
miserable 6,997 votes.
The Nigerian leader also swept
central north Kogi State by a
wide margin of 399,816 votes
to Buhari's 132,201 votes. He
won by a landslide in Lagos,
Nigeria's commercial hub with
1,281,688 votes against
Ribadu's 427,203 votes and
Buhari's 189,983.
The PDP candidate also trounced
other candidates in Akwa Ibom
State. Jonathan garnered
1,165,629 votes, Ribadu of ACN
got 54,149 votes while Buhari
got 5,348 votes.
In Rivers State, Jonathan also
won convincingly, with
1,817,762 votes. He defeated
Ribadu who won only 13,182
votes and Buhari, 16,382 votes.
The president also won more
than one million votes in Abia
State while CPC and ACN
performed woefully. The CPC got
3,608 votes while ACN got 4,156
votes.
With results announced in more
than 25 states, and collation of
results in the remaining 11
states reaching an advanced
stage, the Nigerian leader has
won the highest number of
votes and also satisfied the
constitutional requirement of
winning 25 per cent of the
votes in two thirds of Nigeria's
36 states.
Jonathan also won the Federal
Capital Territory of Abuja,
defeating the CPC candidate
with 253,444 to Buhari's
131,576 votes.By these results,
Jonathan, has overcome the
constitutional hurdles to be re-
elected.
Section 133 (b) of the 1999
Constitution states that "A
candidate for an election to the
office of President shall be
deemed to have been duly
elected to such office where,
being the only candidates
nominated for the election - he
has not less than one-quarter of
the votes cast at the election in
each of at least two-thirds of all
the state in the federation and
the Federal Capital Territory,
Abuja".
In Katsina, security sources told
Xinhua that the killing of the
man sparked protests with the
smashing of windscreens and
burning of tyres on a major
street. A police officer had fired
his rifle Sunday afternoon and
killed a man and wounded two
others while trying to defend
himself as the victim's friends
tried to free him from the police.
The wounded were a man and a
woman, the source said, noting
that they were receiving
treatment in one of the general
hospitals in the state.
The police officer was said to
have gone to the Kofar Marusa
Quarters on patrol and was
trying to apprehend a man as a
suspected drug peddler. But
some of the suspect's friends
tried to forcibly free him from
the police and the police
officer's gun went off, firing
several rounds of ammunition.
The incident led to protests, as
youth took to the streets,
demanding that justice be done
over the killing. They burnt
tyres, smashed windscreens and
wielded various weapons as
they marched on the streets.
Some people, seizing
opportunity of the protests,
broke into shops and carted
away valuables that are yet to
be quantified in monetary
terms.
The timely intervention of army
and policemen kept the situation
from escalating. State police
commissioner Ibrahim Moh'd
expressed his displeasure over
the incident and summarily
dismissed the corporal. He
described the victim's death as
unfortunate and his killing
unwarranted, adding that the
officer would be charged for
murder.
He appealed to people of the
state to remain calm and go
about their normal businesses.
On his part, the police office

Jesus Wept! Says, 18year Old Girl Sees Micheal Jackson and a Pope in Hell...

The Pope is in Hell, a young
Ecuadorian girl, back from
the dead, swears she saw
him there
Interesting Story:
In a "Back from the Dead"
experience, a 18 year old girl
swears she was Pope John Paul
II, Michael Jackson and Selina in
Hell.
Full story at ...
www.DivineRevelations.info/23
For a period of 23 hours, a
young Ecuadorian girl named
Angelica was shown the
Kingdoms of Heaven and Hell,
and the Return of Christ. She
witnessed Jesus weeping as He
overlooked multitudes of souls
lost forever, a world that has
rejected Him, a Church that is
mostly unprepared for Him, a
people that have stopped
witnessing to the lost, and an
entertainment industry that
even lures children to satan. She
witnessed many of our
esteemed cultural icons
suffering in the Pit; singers,
entertainers, and even a pope.
Angelica was also shown how
the Kingdom of Heaven is all
wonderfully prepared and
ready, an unimaginable glorious
place, where no evil exists.
Though Jesus is ONLY coming
back for a Holy People, and
many of God's children will NOT
be ready on that day, and will be
left behind in a world that will
fall apart. Less..

More details coming soon.
